Just wondering where this site is in regards to people uploading Ai or Ai assisted tracks here. My thought is go ahead if you must or think you need to but tell us in the description that you're using Ai to help craft your upload. I think that would be fair. Maybe a site rule in that regards??

Using AI like this is the thin end of the wedge in my opinion. Give me something imperfectly human in all its glory any time over some AI-generated "perfection". Just my €0.02.

Lately I've been listening to some stuff here... way too perfect to be genuine... If I were running this site I would ban any AI generated stuff, but since it's becoming hard sometimes to know what's pure AI or just AI assisted... what should we do? I guess it will soon be very difficult if not impossible to stop the invasion. I hate the kind of "perfection" provided by AI but I guess some love it. If someone is nowhere near of a pro singer/instrumentalist and suddenly sounds like the best technical player ever, what kind of compliment are we supposed to send? Wow! You're the prompt king, man :D Hope this site won't turn into WikiPrompt... :(

As I recall when we had this all come up some time ago the ultimate answer was in the two boxes you tick when uploading. It specifically says "I confirm to be the author of this creative work". If AI is creating the work then you are not the author of the work.
We're a community of musicians, not faking it wannabees. For those who wish to use AI or listen to it there are lots of other sites.
I report it whenever I'm sure that what I'm hearing is AI. It's up to the moderators to remove it. I'd suggest you all do the same as the moderators do not sit around listening to every track that shows up. The only way to keep the site "clean" is through each of us taking some responsibility.

I guess I'm thinking more along the lines of Ai assisting .. you are singing or playing an instrument but you're fine tuning it with Ai, taking out all the sour notes and making it sounds super good. It's still basically you uploading, you did play, you did sing, but it's been tweaked like all get out to sound better. I agree a pure Ai created tune has no place here, ever. I think Ai tweaking is still deceit of a sort and should be acknowledged in the track description, so people know.

A friend from Florida recently posted this:
https://arcanesciencelab.wordpress.com/2026/08/17/do-not-talk-to-me-about-ai/
I can understand that point. I've been in IT for most of my life, and I'm strictly against more and more datacenters which have to be cooled with water we don't really have for this. And for all what generative "AI" can do: computers are real thick - they don't feel, don't think, and are everything but "intelligent". It's all some babbling of LLMs.
For our purposes here, it's basically theft - stolen ideas from people we don't know.
May sound harsh, but sorry, this is my take on it...

I take Ernie's point, yet it's still a matter of honesty/integrity. Sometimes it's our imperfections that give character and life to the arts. Picture Tom Waits filtered through some AI program that eliminates anything rough sounding and makes everything note perfect. Tom Waits no long exists!
Our first premise in being here is that we welcome all regardless of their level of proficiency. We also hear many using WL to improve and do improve over time. If we are not hearing other's mistakes and ignoring our own via AI, then the impetus for improvement may disappear. Along with that could go the spark for innovation.
The slippery slope awaits the unweary. I picture flies just wanting a slurp of sweet nectar from a "pitcher plant". Before they know it they have fallen in and are being digested.

I remember when Queen used to proudly proclaim "no synthesisers" on their early albums. It was only when synthesisers gained a personal identity and sound that they became creative and credible instruments rather than easy substitutes for the real thing. Maybe can post "No AI" on our profiles?
My minor scratching of the AI in music surface suggests at this time it is not for me. It feels a bit formula and kind of pulp music for mass consumption, all of which seems to get instantly forgotten (which I find true of much modern music, AI or otherwise). Where it helps those who lack a musical bone to create a personally satisfying result then yes it has a place. Where it then gets passed off as "all my own work" it sounds like self delusion and thus ultimately sad. When it moves to a total and complete light, soundscape and sensory experience with a real time conductor (like in Star Wars Ep 2 where Anakin goes with Palpatine to a concert) then maybe. Kind of waiting for an AI Tubular Bells. We'll see.
Outside of Wikiloops I am no longer a consumer (purchaser) of new music. I maintain a YouTube connection for music videos, but no Spotify or others. So I don't feel like an AI Music target. I enjoy the love I get when someone likes and comments on a jam I have posted, and the satisfaction of finding a musical fit with a lyric and finishing a track on the Loops. I like the vibe and the camaraderie of the loopers, and I have made some great buddies whose friendship I treasure greatly. Feeling very blessed. And THAT is something that AI will never be able to replace. Although one never knows, eh? Maybe I am already a Bot writing this? Scary...

Ahhh another AI thread - hot topic :D
I hate IA music. Period. Hate it. I want AI to clean my yard while I play the guitar. Does not happen at the moment, it's the other way around :(
Hate hate hate, however, where do you draw the line between AI, partly used AI, maybe on some lyrics the grammar or spelling were fixed by AI, or effects in your DAW that use AI algorithm, etc? If you use a drum machine for your track, is that not AI? Quantizing a track, is that not AI? Who can determine what is considered AI and what not? Where is the cut off point?
I am certainly not going to play FB-AI (see what I did there? ;) ) and police tracks vigorously, listening over and over tracks to try to find out if they are AI or not, sending PMs to people "I listened to your track, it sounds too good to be true, is it Ai, hmmmmm?!?!!!" And getting into heated discussions with them, and probably suspecting a lot of innocent users. No way!
We have enough stuff to deal with other than the spammers, grifters, and regular things such as covers, and people bickering over who plays the trumpet better.
So having users "report" tracks as AI, filling the inbox with clues of suspicious activities and lists of tracks that needs to be investigated, that sounds like East Germany type of fun to me.
So for me, if I post a track, I might write in the track description: "This track has not been generated by AI, and I appreciate that any remixes not use AI on it either. Cheers, TeeGee"
Until such time that Dick finds a workable solution, and I honestly doubt there is one that can be implemented, this is what I will do.

Tee-Gee,
I'm lucky, you can clearly hear that I'm not using AI.
Especially if I add a bit of percussion!😂
That's the advantage of not doing anything perfect.
The day AI plays like me, we'll have something to worry about.😁🤣😆

We have two posts on the same theme/topic.
https://www.wikiloops.com/forum/viewthread.php?forum_id=10&thread_id=4422&pid=33140#post_33140
Unfortunately on both there seems to be an attitude of "it's too difficult", so don't bother us.
Maybe there are others who could be bothered to help take the load. Joking about making someone a commissar isn't much of an answer, and it's certainly not a solution.
So how does WL achieve an AI free status if there is no mechanism and the current rules (supposedly preventing AI) are disregarded?

I think that minimizing AI slop on Wikiloops can only be done if enough members share the same values and opinions on hand-made music and simply ignore the AI stuff.
Even writing a negative comment on an AI track gives the attention seeking, self-styled musician exactly what he or she or it craves to have: attention. So when in doubt, just ignore the track in question.
Let`s not even think about reporting, blacklisting etc. Life`s too short and time`s too valuable.

Thanks for your considered input Thomas. You've made an interesting suggestion that brought about a further idea, but it would be totally in the hands and at the discretion of individual members.
As an interim I'm very happy to use the new ignore function and cut myself off from hearing any tracks from members who bring AI here.
Members could use the online chat to compare notes/opinions regarding suspected AI tracks. I've already consigned one member to that ignore function due to their blatant use of AI.
It may be that they could be asked first and if not responding and/or refusing to remove the track, they are then tagged by the ignore button.
It's my sincere hope that Richard gives this some consideration as a permanent solution may be best.
Thomas' observation about some individuals craving attention is certainly true, however if that brings on an ignore button and other members are doing the same, then having nobody listening and commenting = no attention given.
We are a community, and capable of acting as such rather than waiting for someone else to act. There needs to be trust in each other for this sort of action to be effective. No witch hunts, just good listening and intelligent dialogues.
Good to have positive ideas. Thanks to Thomas and anyone else coming forward. Share your thoughts.

It has been said time and again: AI-generated music is like pure water—insipid, flavorless, devoid of emotion, un-erotic, forgettable, and churned out by the mile. People aren't fooled; let’s stop underestimating their capacity for genuine enjoyment. Before long, new artists will surely be able to expose the so-called magic behind it.

i haven't read through all the wikiloops terms and info, but something as simple as some 'core values' of the wikiloops site (and music) could thwart AI and AI-use, with specific language about AI.
we use 'core values' at work that we can always lean on when the time comes, they are helpful in directing responses and pointing people towards. and, here's the kicker, AI could help you write the wikiloops core values :)
example (short):
Wikiloops Core Values
Music First – We create to share, inspire, and connect through music.
Respect Always – Treat every member with kindness, patience, and respect.
Human Creativity – Celebrate music created through genuine human performance and collaboration.
or
Authentic Musicianship – Our community is built on real musicians collaborating through real performances. Purely AI-generated musical works are outside the spirit of Wikiloops.

@Nick: I like it, especially the authentic musicianship part.
Quick sidenote: It doesn`t really help with the issue Ernie brought up regarding AI based tools. Is using for example the Landr mastering tool (which is AI based) a no-go? Personally I wouldn`t complain if anyone uses it, though it would be nice if it could be mentioned in the comments.

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with Landr or any other AI tool that could be creating the music or could be benign and just adjusting compression and such.
I don't think it's too difficult to discern when the music is being generated by a computer rather than an individual. Drum machines and such have been around for a long time and the members who are honest and care for our drummer members note when it's a machine and omit it in the HD download. Likewise instruments are programmed by members to give us templates that serve a purpose, but are not self generated by AI. They can also leave out some instruments in the HD to allow others to fill in.
It's nice if someone is honest in saying they have used AI for some or all of their track, however I think many (if not most) here just don't wish to see this site become somewhere that has to be sifted through in order to hear music by real people.

What I can say AI is and will be everywhere in our life.So to reject is equal to remain years behind. What is AI in music creation"Producers use AI for mixing, mastering, and isolating audio stems using software like AudioShake.Market analysts project the AI music sector is prognose to grow from $3.9 billion in 2023 to $38.7 billion by 2033."
As Wikiloops is non professional Music creation site and wants to remain with it's clean creation portfolio ,option is Clear inside regulations .If fully ignore AI as per me will be step back, as most music modules software etc are AI based.Similar is questions related to AI in all other cultural areas ,books writing, paintings creation, photography and process is developing there also. This theme can't be ignored but regulated.

Ahh Krasimir, that`s where I think we disagree but let`s not have a discussion here on the impact of AI - spending the time to create music is better :D
But I find the bit about the "non professional music creation site" interesting. Seems to me that we have a number of members who may not make their living in the music industry - the state of the industry being what it is - but who are nevertheless professional musicians.
And even though the playing abilily of a professional musician is only part of what makes up a professional musician, I think that many of us strive to improve and some will eventually get to a professional level (some already have).
Their output can be listened to via Wikiloops radio by everyone - which means that in this sense one tiny part of Wikiloops is also a streaming service. Only differences to Spotify & Co are that
a) Wikiloops is free of charge
b) Listeners get a whole range of musical and recording quality
So I don`t think that "non-professional vs professional" is the real differentiator for Wikiloops but it`s "creator-driven vs listener-driven".
And if Wikiloops can somehow (see discussion above) maintain its non-Ai attitude then that is what will set Wikiloops apart from everything else. It may be just wishful thinking on my part but for the moment I believe that "boutique" offerings like Wikiloops still attract a higher level of music lovers vs indiscriminate sound consumers.
