I found this interesting article, well worth a read.

"Are your speakers up for the challenge?

When testing a new pair of speakers, your first instinct might be to play a favorite song. It’s a great way to enjoy your new setup, but it won’t necessarily reveal its full strengths—or weaknesses.

Unlike headphones, which deliver sound directly to your ears, speakers interact with the room. Reflections from walls, floors, and furniture can dramatically alter what you hear, affecting bass response, stereo imaging, and overall clarity.

To get a true sense of your speakers’ capabilities, it’s important to test across key audio characteristics. The following sections break down what to listen for and the best tracks to put your setup to the test. Let’s dive in!..."

Also check for the link on how to check your headphones!

In the UK we have a high street glasses store called specsavers they also do hearing aids....long and short is they test your hearing, and printout a graph of your hearing response. Once you are armed with this you can then set up a compensated stereo output from your daw for while you're mixing...when you are satisfied with the mix, simply set the output busses to "flat" then everyone else will hear it the way you did.

Just a thought.

....just found an app (hearing test) for Android that maps your hearing like I said.
So no need for specsavers.

But only after everyone else applied their 'reversed flaw' to perfect flat response... :o

In a band years ago, we had a 1u rack mounted auto equaliser...it had its own reference mic, and all we did was plug in the pa with this do-dad (think it was denon or senheiser) in the signal chain after the desk. It then put out a burst of pink noise, and increased the gain until it just started to feed back, it the notched out the frequency responsible, and continued upping the gain until the next frequency rang back ..and so on.
When it had finished doing its thing, you could save the resulting eq setting to its memories (think it had 100 slots) and name it.
So everytime we played that venue again we'd just plug it in and call up the memory for that space. Cool beans, as we were always late. :D

"Faith evans"
"Love like this" as my go-to sound checker track.
Even if you don't like the tuneage, its gotta be on of the best pieces of production ever.
