Yes, totally agree with you. It reminds me of the boogie woogie bugle boy kind of style. The reason it turned out this way was because the bass part came after the vocal. Something in the vocal suggested this to my friend who did the bass. If the process had been the other way around I'm sure I would have tried something completely different. At the same time, that's what I like about it.
