I'm trying out the BBC Symphony Orchestra and this seemed like the right track for the wind instruments. A tight arrangement without too much going on. I hope it's not too bad. Any suggestions or criticisms are welcome :-)

Hey Kinooks, Sounds great! I use Kontakt Session Horns and its a little work to get realistic horns.

You can try the following for horn practice and compare to what i did . I had to work on the Horn sound and a good Saturation(Saturators bring out mid range on instruments or songs that really add a professional fullness and really help with car radio playing a track accurately) plug in really brings them out.Or try a Console plugin like Waves Sheps Omni Channel.(Anything that replicates a Neves comnsole should work) Lastly a good Buss compressor or channel limiter to smooth them out.

Youll get horns Lush and rich.
Im a rocker and Soul R and B type guy so prefer Motown horn sections. These are all good horn practice.
A Song For Inna #305211
Good Times (Are Coming) #267589
A Pious Bird Of Good Omen #225928

Thanks for joining and I never mind using my tracks experimenting especially working out horn vsts

Kinook Many thanks LittleWing for listening, but especially for your comment. This is exactly what I need. I've been trying different configurations for a while now and it's not easy for me, at least for now, to get a decent sound. I will definitely try to follow your advice. I had already had my eye on the Sheps Omni Channel, it means I have to get it!
Thanks again, and I will definitely go and listen to the tracks you reported.

LittleWing Omni channel is a real good strip channel plugin. If you go to any real recording studio , they run you thru a strip that goes into the main mix board. . The strip is usually three or four sections : eq , compressor , saturation and preamp .
The Omni channel has the most presets I have ever seen on a plug in and you can find something that sounds great just by clicking it’s preset . Omni channel also has an extra blank slot to add any other waves plug in. .

I can’t stress the importance of a saturation plugin. People read it adds distortion and assume it’s an overdrive . Nope. …
It’s absolutley important for instruments and mixes to sound full and clean. The most neglected area : mid ranges which is all important for getting things to sound good on phones and car stereos .

I have literally 90% of all the waves plug ins . It’s a good one but i don’t use as I make my own strips with other plugins in the effect chain .
Waves abbey road vinyl is a great saturation I use.
Happy jamming

LittleWing Waves Abbey Road Rs124 is a great compressor . It’s based on the compressor that was used to make the Beatles Abbey Road album sound so smooth and sweet . Great compressor and has presets. It added all the polish to the Abbey Road album .
Still used today in pro studios for Beyoncé and a Taylor Swift to get that professional smooth sound.

Waves Center is a great one . You can control the center or sides of a mix .
That’s called M/S. Omni channel let’s you control M/S (Middle/Side) volume

Kinook Yes, Wave products are really good, many are digital replicas of famous hardware. I have some..
I'm not a fan of software strips, to record instruments or voices I use a Golden Age strip (Pre-Eq-Comp), while the recorded tracks I almost always work with Fab-Filter plugins (for example Saturn2 for saturation). Wave, almost always for compressors including multiband ones. But I will definitely try the Sheps Omni Channel. Thanks again.
