The Rainy Day

Rain, soaking my spirits,
mood dampened by the day,
as the wind cackles at me,
whispering warnings
of what’s to come.

I look out the window
and watch as the water gathers and
drips like tears down the pane
until it curdles on the sill.

The leaves look onward,
wanting to help,
wishing they could soak up their sorrows,
but they are drowning in their own problems,

Hanging lifeless from the naked trees
browned from too much living
ready to fall,
they don't care at all,
They have their own problems to consider
like what's going to happen
to them once they hit the dirt.

The clouds scowl with their old gray faces
it's hard to tell what time it is
as they shroud the sky with muted light

They don't have any sympathy
as they gather to weep on the trees,
soon they will evaporate
and exist no more
as the sun comes out and pretends
nothing has happened.
