Very cool and a quick thought on Auto tune...You use it and experiment and get all your learning with it done on Wikiloops here. Yeah it gets reactions and opinions but by all means ...EXPERIMENT.
Its all finding what works for you and how will you know unless thru trial and error. Im glad you chose this track to try something creative.
On my end it was all worth it.

True fact: Cher was the first use of autotune on her song "Do You Believe". They recorded the track and after she left the engineers installed a brand new trial version. They used her song and kinf of over did it just playing around seeing what it did. The next morning they all came in and did a playback forgetting the auto tune was on and Cher heard it. Thinking they were fired, CHer LOVED it and wasnt insulted about the pitch correction and it was a number 1 hit. +1

Interesting! I remember the song and how strange the auto-tune sounded. I've never used auto-tune playing live, but I guess I consider it just another effect to make you sound better. No-one complains about delay or reverb, but I suppose auto-tune teeter's on what some call vocal 'cheating.' A friend of mine worked for ShowCo (defunct) as a FOH engineer, and said no-one realizes how many bands have been using backing tracks for years to supplement their sound, with one being CS&N. They say Frankie Valli hasn't sang live since 2000...he's 90 and still hits every note!...lol.

I am Facebook friends with a guy named David Pelletier. He started with Tycocabre in the 60's which led him to working with Chip Monck who is the "voice of Woodstock". He designed the Woodstock stage and PA. Both did the Stones 72 tour which is the first modern day rock concert standard. I have private photos I asked to share somewhere in the forum here.
I met them online when I was into rare rock photos.
Im genuinley interested in their stories and know whos who so I guess they befriended me based simply on they can share their tales but those two are legendary and true pioneers of concert sound and lighting.Theres some never before seen photos I remember posting on a forum post but cant remember as its been awhile.They designed the first PA and Lighting system that travels with a band, can be assembled in 3 hours on hydraulic stands, and moved by 8 people which was the Stones road crew back then.The lighting system shone into mirrors which reflected back on the stage often getting temperatires to 130 degrees which is why 70s rock photos theyre often spraying sweat everywhere on stage.
Unfortunatley Chip s health is bad so we may be losing an absolute legend soon.
Im familiar with Showco and know many of their accomplishments.
Im particularly fascinated by how Paul McCartney and Showco pioneered getting the bass to sound great. Youll see guitar amps but never bass amps at a McCartney show.TIn the 70 Wings had the best bass then Supertramp helped develop it.
Im famiuliar with the fakery and to some extent I tell people they are not admiring my musicianship, theyre admiring my editing skills.
I DESPISE REVERB btw. Absolutley hate it and will substituite delay often times which is so much better. Reverb sounds good thats the problem and is used to mask bad performances. John Lennons entire solo career is unlistenable for me. Instant Karma...pay attention how crappy the performance and mix is. They were all high on coke and slapped reverb on it and it went number #1` Reverb is the originally fakery tool. +1

Another problem I had with this song LittleWing was I started tuning down a half step (Eb) several years ago as it made singing songs at gigs so much easier, and of course, this loop is in 440. I use 'Song Surgeon' software to change the keys so I can practice the bands list without re-tuning my guitar, and is what I used to bring this song down, and then back to 440. I resisted the half-step for a long time, but after finding that SRV, Hendrix, VH, and even people like BB King did it, I gave in. I don't know enough music theory to tell you why only a half step down makes such a difference, but vocally it does. And the string tension difference really helps my old hands make those bends much easier too...Glen

Thanks...and yes! My voice is pretty rusty these days, and I'm not really a singer per say, so I auto-tuned the vox to smooth it out...Glen
