The Monarch

She arrives
on wings of air,
clapping, flapping
happy with her recent survival.

She waves,
dips and dances
emerging with life
not a guarantee
as she starts her
two to four week journey.

Flowers open their arms,
Embracing her with fragrant charms
And she drinks,
thirsty from her endless birth.

Soon will be the urge to mate,
as nature calls to procreate,
she will try to keep her family going
while there’s time.

Her siblings
hang suspended in
their jaded glory
their almond shaped homes
making them seem lucky.

Perhaps they’ll survive
as they wait their turn
to emerge, and stay alive,

The metamorphosis of
another birth
on this unforgiving earth.
