To me a riff it is that (melodic or rhythmic) hook that makes you immediately recognise the song. Many believe it's only to be used for some guitarlicks but I differ that opinion. Although I could also pick some drumbeats, key- or horn-riffs from which a few bars is enough to recognize the song I of course had to choose some classic bass-riffs... Tried to keep it at 5 but decided to double that and even that seems too short
