Wish I could pause
all this noise
and fast-forward
past the day
without an election at play,
With all its commotion,
slamming fists,
catchy headlines
so hard to resist.
Perhaps it's the media
that gets us inflamed
with all the name-calling,
political games.
Accusations,
political gyrations,
pick a side,
abide,
live in fear,
try to hide,
turn the page,
feel rage,
then there’s hope,
others say nope.
I remember the days
of no news haze,
just find a station you liked
without all the hype.
But magazines have died
newspapers too,
there's no place to hide
while they follow you
With cookies, cache,
don’t you dare look away,
look what I have
just for you,
a tailor-made product
perfect and true.
Headlines that scream
pay attention to me,
don't change the channel,
can't you see
I need your clicks and bites
to exist
look at this story,
and get your news fix.
How do you vet
what's going on
when the ads cut and paste
showing someone is wrong?
Slogans like scraps
thrown out to a dog,
maybe you'll bite
with confusing word bogs.
Soon this will all be over,
And I'll get back to my show
but the ads will still follow me,
with all the info they know.
